As we journey through life, there are moments that define not just who we are but also how we live out what we’ve learned. These defining moments often come unexpectedly, interrupting our routines and challenging our resolve. Yet, it is in these moments that we discover whether we are truly living what we read—whether the truths we claim to hold dear are deeply rooted in our souls or simply words on a page.
At the end of 2024, my husband and I found ourselves navigating one such defining moment. My husband, Reg, fell seriously ill and had to be hospitalized. It was a sobering time that demanded more faith than we had imagined. As we were still catching our breath from his recovery, I too became ill. The weight of it all could have crushed us, but instead, we took refuge in the Word of God—a constant reminder that we were not alone.
The Scriptures became the very air we breathed. Every verse, every promise reminded us of God’s presence and His unfailing love. Isaiah 41:10 whispered strength into our spirits: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Those words weren’t just comforting—they were life-sustaining.
In the hospital rooms and quiet moments of prayer, we encountered God as the Restorer of our souls. Even when our physical strength waned, He became our strength. Psalm 23:3 resonated with new meaning: “He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” In the valley, we discovered not only His presence but also His purpose.
Through these defining moments, we were reminded that our purpose is not confined to the good days. Living what you read means applying faith when life is uncertain, trusting God when the path is unclear, and praising Him when the storm is still raging. It’s about anchoring ourselves in His promises and choosing to believe that He is who He says He is—even when the evidence isn’t visible.
These challenges became a testimony of resilience and faith. They reminded us that while life may shake us, God’s Word sustains us. He truly never leaves nor forsakes us. His promises aren’t just comforting words—they are truths that shape how we walk through trials and emerge stronger.
Today, as we look back, we can’t help but celebrate the faithfulness of God. He not only brought us through but deepened our understanding of what it means to live what we read. We now see with greater clarity that our lives are intertwined with purpose, and even in difficulty, God is writing a story that reflects His glory.
For anyone facing their own defining moments, take heart. Let the Scriptures be your refuge and your strength. Trust that God is with you, and know that He is the Restorer of your soul. In Him, you will find the strength to not only endure but also to thrive.
As you live what you read, you’ll discover that even the hardest moments can be filled with joy—not because of the circumstances but because of the God who walks with you through them. Let Him breathe life into you, and may His presence guide you to purpose, peace, and restoration.
"In the moments that define us, let us choose to live the truths we’ve learned, for it is there that we find God’s unwavering faithfulness and the power to fulfill His purpose."
